Project Description — Krónos, Kinetic Structure
This project explores the intersection of design movements, motion, and mechanical systems. Working in pairs, you will research a design movement and translate its principles into a kinetic structure that functions within a 40cm x 40cm footprint. The height is to be proposed based on your design intent. Your structure should incorporate mechanisms and motion powered by a motorized circuit. The final piece should function as a dynamic object, sculpture, or interactive installation, demonstrating both mechanical ingenuity and aesthetic coherence with your chosen movement. For the final presentation, your project will be showcased in the school’s basement carpark(outside workshop). If required, you must also design and build your own exhibition furniture to display your work effectively.

Drawing inspiration from Umberto Boccioni’s Futurist masterpiece, “Unique Forms of Continuity in Space,” and Salvador Dalí’s iconic “The Persistence of Memory,” Krónos embodies Futurism. Exploring the subjective and often distorted nature of chronoception. It visually conveys speed through its dynamic structure and incorporates repeating forms within the gears, alongside reflections and refractions created by light interacting with the acrylic components.
